Suburban Malaise

Entering Autumn

The summer zoomed by, as it does more and more as we get older. It's a desolate time in the world. Here in the New York area, we had to deal with the city being turned into a police state for the sake of the Republicans. Now it's time to get back to normal, to regenerate ourselves and with luck (a lot of luck), the country as well.

Meditative Goose

We went to Lambertville on Saturday; it's a nicely gentrified town on the Delaware with lots of antique shops and well-preserved old architecture. We walked along the canal accompanied by a flock of geese accustomed to being fed by the tourists. But one goose wandered on its own in a meditative way; is there such a thing as philosophical goose?

Immigrant Longings

Last night dreamt that my long-dead Hungarian grandparents invited my older brother and myself over for dinner. They were sitting patiently at their kitchen table with the dinner waiting for us. I almost never dream about them, so I was suprised and happy to see them. They never really understood or liked America. They never assimilated and were shamed by their poor English. But they don't want to be forgotten. So they set the table for us.
